prehistoric: about the work
Ricky Demarco came to talk to us at Leeds College of Art in 1976 to promote his summer school/event that would be travelling ‘prehistoric’ Europe and the UK for 10 weeks with art students and artists funded by the Arts Council. I joined that summer and had an amazing time travelling with about 40 wild and weird people and meeting many more including archaeologists, poets, earth 'mysterions' and dowsers. Although I knew what prehistoric sites were - I had visited many - until EA76 I had no idea what they were for. Outcrop art sites in particular have fascinated me. I have spent years studying them and writing about them, so naturally as a landscape photographer I found them the perfect subjects. I have tried to portray them in my work ever since.
